The entire Tamil medieval religious and philosophical literature in terms of ideological content can be divided into three parts, which are only very tentatively and partially correlated with periods. They are:
a) The Jain and Buddhist ethics literature VI-IX centuries. Mr. e., The most striking examples of that both in terms of both content and artistic are two collections of short sayings - Kura Thiruvalluvar and Naladiyyar; to this part of the can (of course, only very tentatively) include Buddhist epic ManimehaleyContaining a detailed account of a number of major philosophies of ancient India, should specify that this statement carries very little specific Tamil, introducing at the same time extremely interesting from the standpoint of the history of Indian philosophy;
b) Religious literature and Vaishnava bhakti Shaivite VII-XI centuries. Mr. Oe. and the adjacent Purina literature, c) the philosophical literature of Saiva Sadri Khanty XII-XVI centuries. Mr. e. the most typical of "an important piece of which is" a textbook Shaivite theology "- Siea Nyanabodam Meykandar. This literature contains besides the original concept of Tamil Saivism and more abundant material for a number of ancient Indian philosophical systems and especially on the materialist doctrine lokayaty.
The subsequent period of the history of Tamil literature (IV-VII centuries. N. E.) Characterized by a sharp increase in linguistic, cultural, ideological and religious influence especially the north, apparently associated with the expansion of political dynasties such as Calabria and the Chalukyas and later Pallava. The dominant religions are Buddhism and Jainism, with their purely rationalist philosophy and practice of ethical orientation. In the literature, began to dominate the genre of short didactic aphorisms, collections of which were later combined into a complex "Eighteen small didactic poems". The two main pieces of this complex are the Kura and Naladiyyar. Not all products of this complex were created Jains, but it was the decisive round of Jain ethical and philosophical ideas. |
